Joanna Biernacka-Lievestro

Graduate Research Assistant, George Mason University School of Public Policy

Joanna Biernacka-Lievestro is a third year Public Policy doctoral student at George Mason University.  Her areas of research are regional economic development, entrepreneurship, and transportation policy.

In 2008, Ms. Biernacka-Lievestro received her M.A. in European Integration from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, and in 2006 she received her B.A. in International Relations from Tischner University in Krakow, Poland.  Prior to her research at the Center for Regional Analysis, she taught English as a Second Language at Columbia College in Fairfax, VA for three years.

Maurice Champagne

Graduate Research Assistant, George Mason University School of Public Policy

Maurice Champagne is a doctoral student and graduate research assistant at George Mason University. His research topics include Urban Economics, Political Economy, and Housing Related Financial Institutions.

Prior to his research at the Center for Regional Analysis, Maurice worked as an analyst for Enterprise Community Loan Fund, a national Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) for affordable housing, transit-oriented development, and charter schools.                   Mr. Champagne has also served as an examiner for the U.S. Office of Management and Budget – Housing, Treasury, and Commerce Division, and a policy analyst for the U.S. Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. He has a B.A. in political science from Morehouse College, and a Master’s in Public Policy & Urban Planning from Harvard University.

Xiaochu Hu

Graduate Research Assistant, George Mason University School of Public Policy

Xiaochu Hu is a third year PhD student at the School of Public Policy and Graduate Research Assistant at the Center for Regional Analysis, George Mason University.  Her research fields are immigration policy and regional economic development.

Ms. Hu holds a Master’s degree in Applied Geography from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master’s of Public Administration from Beijing Normal University.  She earned her B.S. in Computer Science from Beijing Language and Culture University.

Ms. Hu’s recent publications include Scientists, Managers, and Tourists: The Changing Shape of European Migration to the United States (Migration Policy Institute, July 2011, co-author,); and China’s “New generation” Rural-urban Migrants: Migration Motivation and Pattern (Migration Information Source, Jan 2012).
